Excelsia Village. Excelsa Village is a small masterplanned community designed by DPZ Pacific and RDG. It includes a variety of housing types, from single storey cottages serviced by lane ways, to live/work terraces, to multi-storey apartments located over a neighbourhood centre. It also includes a main street, village square and community buildings.

After a lengthy design process, which failed to get the support of the local community, we were asked to create a built form vision for the development that was more in keeping with the local area. This was an extremely interesting test of our methodology – the first time we had applied it in a foreign country with a totally different set of aesthetic criteria.

Our fresh vision for the project was extremely favourably received by the local community and professionals alike. Moreover, with a new vision in place, we subsequently designed 10 demonstration homes within the village.
